A few years ago I attended a workshop on the LIfeLine Technique given by Dr. Darren Weissman. He taught a number of valuable things among which is the belief that symptoms are a gift.
Accordng to the latest reports we are basically only conscious of about 2% to 5% or what is going on around us. We operate our of our unconscious mind over 90% of the time. Something can be really wrong but if we don't know about it, we don't know to fix it or heal it. If it shows up as a symptom, it gets our attention. The symptom can be physical as in stress headaches, indigestion or backaches or it can be emotional as in feeling angry, sad, worried etc.. The symptom gets our attention and then we know to do something about it.
When we try to push down a symptom, the chances are it won't go away and it may get worse. The old adage "What you resist, persists" is very true. So what to do?
There are ways to address the symptoms, look for underlying causes and heal the root cause in many cases. When this is possible, I believe this is infinitly preferable to pushing it aside or numbing it out.
On the next pages I will talk about several ways that we can address symptoms and help to heal what otherwise would lie hidden in our unconscious minds.
Talk Therapy is a way to understand your emotions and make decisions about what is wise and what is not. This can be very helpful in many instances. Sometimes our emotions get the best of our common sense, however, and it helps to have some tools that can help us take and keep control. In these pages I will present several approaches that I find to be very helpful.
EMDR is an approach which was developed in the 1980's by Francine Shapiro as a innovative approach to treating the emotional response to trauma. The Energy Psychology Tecnhiques include a variety of methods based on Traditional Chinese Medicine.
